Dr. Steinberg holds a BM in Music Education and a MA in Secondary Education from San Francisco State University and a Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with a Music Education emphasis from the University of the Pacific, where she taught conducting and was Assistant Conductor of the conservatory's bands.

She has been recognized as an Administrator of the Year Award in 2003 and a Jazz Educator of the Year Award in 2008 for outstanding leadership in the association's Southern Border Section.

As a freelance trumpet player in the greater San Francisco Bay Area for almost 20 years and now in San Diego , Dr. Steinberg has performed with The Drifters, Frankie Valle, Mary Wells, Baytown Band, Full Faith & Credit, Brad Stenwehe Big Band, Jazz Machine Big Band, Groove Therapy, Soul University, and many others over the years.
